The Three Layers

Spirit Layer

I. The Signal

The Bracing is the body's protective intelligence — the nervous system doing exactly what it was designed to do in the presence of threat. It is not dysfunction. It is survival wisdom.

Body Layer

II. The Temple

In the body, bracing is felt as tension in the shoulders, jaw, and hips — a holding, a tightening, a readiness that does not know how to stand down.

Mind Layer

III. The Map

The question is not 'why am I bracing?' The question is 'what does my system believe is still threatening?' Name the threat. Then determine whether it is current or historical.

Orientation

Upright

Energy flowing outward

The bracing is appropriate — there is a real threat present and the body is responding correctly.

Reversed

Energy turned inward

The bracing has outlasted the threat. The body is still defending against something that is no longer present.

Journal Prompts

Sit with these. You don't have to answer all of them.

01

What is your body protecting you from right now? Is that threat still real?

02

Where do you hold tension most consistently in your body — and what story lives there?

03

What would it feel like to stand down — just for a moment?
